DVLA GRABS AWARDS

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) received two awards at the the maiden edition of the Public Enterprises League Table (PELT) Awards organized by the Ministry of Public Enterprises with support from the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) and the Ministry of Finance, at Kempinski Gold Coast City Hotel, Accra, on the theme: "Improving Public Sector Business Outcomes".

The awards, Regulator of the Year and the Most Digital Specified Entity of the Year were in recognition of DVLA attaining the highest scores in the implementation of Government of Ghana's digitisation drive and also its highest performance in public policy mandate among the regulatory bodies made up of Other State Entities (OSEs) in the award categories.

Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who was the Special Guest at the event commended the Public Enterprise Ministry for introducing the Scheme. According to him, the PELT Awards will help in projecting SOEs who are performing for the improvement of the country.

“It is my wish that the Public Enterprises League Table the gold standard for recognizing Specified Entities whose responsiveness and performance would be open for all to see,” he noted.

Speaking at the event, the Minister for Public Enterprises, Joseph Cudjoe said the newly introduced, award scheme is to generate healthy competition amongst SOEs in the country.

He said the aim was to change the 65-year-old challenge of high indebtedness, loss-making, non-performance and collapse of state entities.

In a related development, the Authority received four awards, at the Procurement and Supply chain awards organized by Instinct Wave at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra.

This was in recognition of the Authority’s leading procurement expert, team and as a top Procurement and Supply Chain Organisation, whose outstanding leadership and practices have raised the standards for procurement within DVLA by showcasing top ethics, best practices, tact and brilliance.

The awards are Excellence in Procurement and Supply Chain State Owned Enterprise (Gold), Public Sector Procurement Team of the year (Silver), Dr. Robert Kweku Tay being adjudged the Public Sector Procurement Personality of the Year and Africa top 50 Procurement Leader.

This brings to 50 the number of awards received by the Authority in the 5 and a half years.

The Deputy Director of Procurement and Stores, Dr. Robert Kweku Tay in a remark noted that the Authority complied with statutory requirements throughout the procurement process while ensuring value for money. He Said, measures have been put in place to provide the best infrastructure that will see further improvement in the services and efficiency at DVLA.

“The procurement Department ensures that the best standards of equipment are obtained to contribute to the transformations you see at DVLA therefore we see to it that whatever is being procured meets the highest standard” he said.

The PELT is an Innovation by the Ministry of Public Enterprises Mr Joseph Cudjoe, as part of policies to engender competition among Specified Entities and enhance performance.

It is also a form of assessment tool to evaluate the performances of Specified Entities as per the Annual performance contract they sign with SIGA.
