The Chief Executive of the
Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey,
engaged in a strategic meeting with key stakeholders to prepare for the
Authority’s National community outreach programme. The meeting aimed to
strengthen collaboration and improve coordinated efforts to enhance road safety
and service delivery across communities.
The engagement brought together
representatives from the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), the Motor
Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana
National Fire Service, the Ghana National Ambulance Service, the Ghana
Optometric Association and other partner institutions.
Addressing the stakeholders, Mr.
Kotey emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing road safety
concerns and enhancing public education on licensing, vehicle inspection and
other DVLA services. He noted that the community outreach is part of the
Authority’s broader efforts to bring services closer to the public,
particularly in underserved areas.
“We cannot achieve road safety
and compliance goals in isolation. Our partnership with all of you is critical
to ensuring that our communities are well-informed and that we save lives on
our roads,” Mr. Kotey remarked. The stakeholder engagement also
provided a platform to discuss key roles and responsibilities during the
outreach programme, address operational challenges and align activities for
maximum impact.
Representatives from the various
agencies commended DVLA for the initiative and pledged their commitment to work
together to promote road safety, emergency preparedness and accessible health
screening services as part of the outreach.
The DVLA community outreach
programme is expected to roll out in selected regions offering services such as
driver licensing, vehicle registration, eye screening and public sensitization
on road traffic regulations.
