The
Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has officially opened a new
office in Bole, in the Savannah Region. This development marks a significant
step in the Authority's efforts to enhance service delivery and aligns with
government’s broader agenda to decentralize infrastructure and development
while making public institutions more responsive to citizens’ needs.
The Chief Executive of DVLA, Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, speaking
at the event, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to enhancing service
delivery across the country. Mr. Kotey noted that the town’s rapid growth and
increasing commercial activity necessitate better transportation infrastructure
and regulation. The presence of DVLA in Bole, he said, will ease access to
driver licensing and vehicle registration services, ensuring every eligible
person can drive legally and every vehicle is properly registered.
“Bole is fast-growing with its attendant commercial
activities. It is trite that transportation and movement of humans, goods and
services is a common factor that grows along human settlements that are
fast-growing. We can all attest to the influx of means of transport in this
catchment area”, he stated.
He acknowledged initial challenges faced at the Authority,
particularly a backlog of unprinted licenses, but was pleased to report major
progress was initiated following the introduction of 24-hour license printing
at DVLA’s print farm.
Looking ahead, Mr. Kotey revealed that several new offices are
in the process to be commissioned including offices in Dormaa, Dansoman,
Teshie-Nungua, Nkoranza, Ashaiman, Tema Communities 1 and 10 and Osu. He
emphasized that DVLA remains focused on decentralization and service
sustainability.
The Chief Executive thanked the President, His Excellency
John Dramani Mahama for his leadership in driving service to the people of
Ghana. He also thanked Bolewura, Sarfo Kutuge Feso I, and residents of Bole for
their warm reception and support, assuring them of DVLA’s readiness to serve
the community efficiently. He also thanked the King for releasing acres of land
to DVLA to construct an ultra-modern office.
The Member of Parliament for
Bole-Bamboi, Yussif Suleman Ori, commended DVLA for the office saying the
establishment of the new branch, will not only bring about easy and timely
service delivery but also boost business and create jobs, particularly to the youth.
He thanked Mr. Kotey for the
initiative saying, the constituency has long overdue to have such a facility
even though requests were made years ago. He urged indigents who would have the
opportunity to work in the office to exhibit high level of processualism and
hard work to the satisfaction of clients.
The MP also touched on plans
to bring some developmental projects to the area. He mentioned the opening of
Minerals Commission, Social Security and National Insurance Trust as well as
Environmental Protection Agency offices in the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive,
Abdulai Muhamud assured that, the office will receive
cooperation of the Assembly in its operation, and urged drivers, riders and
prospective persons to adhere to road transport regulations and also comply
with all traffic rules.
The
Paramount Chief, Yirem Bolewura, described the establishment of the office as a
great relief, noting that ‘to have an office of DVLA situated here in Bole is a
relief for my people and within the catchment area’.
He
said that the phenomenon of people placing on the roads vehicles that are
either unregistered or not roadworthy would be a thing of the past since some
do that because they do not have the requisite documents covering the vehicles.
He
urged drivers and riders to regularly verify their documents including licences
and renew them in order that they will not have issues with the police and
other enforcement officers.
Experience seamless vehicle registration, driver’s license renewal, and real-time updates—all in one place.
