Chief Executive of the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA), Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, engaged the Media ahead of the introduction of the New Vehicle Registration Number Plate.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Kotey emphasized the initiative's national importance, highlighting its transparent and inclusive rollout.

He stated that the initiative was expected to enhance road safety, improve vehicle traceability and ensure data integrity. He added, that the Authority had engaged key stakeholders to discuss the new system, indicating that the roll out plan for the new vehicle registration plate system is aimed at increasing data accuracy, combating fraud and promoting safer roads.

“We urge the media to support the Authority’s public education efforts by collaborating to raise public awareness and promote this important initiative aimed at promoting safety on our roads”. He said.

A detailed presentation by Mr. Kafui Semevo, Director for Driver Training Testing and   Licensing (DTTL), revealed   that the new plates will include: Radio Frequency Identification   Device (RFID) chips for real-time tracking, QR   codes and reflective material for authenticity   and visibility, Colour codes for easy category identification, among   others.

The engagement also held an interactive session which addressed key issues such as fees   and plate ownership,   re-registration of existing vehicles data protection, Ceremonial plates,   as  well as appointment system and           National Identification Authority (NIA) integration.

The Deputy Chief Executive, in charge of Services, Foster Akwasi Asante Esq, on his part, urged the media to lead   in public sensitisation as they are the Authority’s strongest partner in driving safer roads. He underscored the importance of the ongoing innovations, referring to them as crucial steps toward boosting revenue and efficiency. He also acknowledged current revenue losses due to the nature of the current processes in registering a Vehicle and acquiring a new number plate but expressed confidence that the changes would enhance income generation.

Expressing gratitude to the media for their participation, the Deputy Chief Executive urged  continued support for  the transformation agenda, assuring that the reforms would ultimately  benefit both DVLA and the general public.

The Authority has set January next year for the rollout of its new Vehicle Registration Number  Plate system while  commencing re-registration of existing vehicles from April 1, 2026.
