The
Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has commissioned two additional
offices at Abuakwa and Bonwire in the Ashanti Region, marking another
significant step in its drive to make services more accessible to the public.
The
commissioning ceremonies were attended by government officials, traditional
authorities, municipal representatives, members of the DVLA Board and
Management, as well as residents of the two communities.
Speaking
at the ceremonies, the Chief Executive of DVLA, Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, said
the opening of the new offices demonstrates the Authority’s firm commitment to
improving public service delivery by making DVLA services more accessible,
efficient and responsive to the needs of citizens. He expressed appreciation to
the traditional leaders of Abuakwa and Bonwire and other key stakeholders,
noting that their cooperation and support were instrumental in bringing the
projects to fruition.
“These
new offices reflect our strong resolve to enhance public service delivery
nationwide. Our focus remains on making our services more user-friendly,
effective and responsive to the expectations of the Ghanaian public,” he
stated.
Mr.
Kotey highlighted key reforms implemented in recent years, reaffirming DVLA’s
mandate to ensure that all drivers are properly trained, tested and licensed
and that vehicles on Ghana’s roads are duly registered and certified for roadworthy.
He also announced the introduction of new vehicle number plates in January
2026, an initiative aimed at improving security, modernising systems and
enhancing service delivery.
He
added that since assuming office, the Governing Board of DVLA, Management and
staff have introduced progressive reforms to strengthen the Authority’s
operations and promote safer roads, noting that these efforts are contributing
to improved road safety and responsible behaviour among road users.
At
Abuakwa, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Services, Foster Akwasi Asante
Esq. described the new office as a major milestone that will expand access to
DVLA services, reduce travel time for clients and contribute to improved road
safety. He commended the Authority for supporting government’s decentralisation
agenda and advancing efficient public service delivery.
In
Bonwire, the Paramount Chief, Nana Bobie Ansah II, lauded DVLA for selecting
the area as a strategic location. He noted that the new office will
significantly improve convenience for drivers, vehicle owners, and transport
operators in the Tano South Municipality and surrounding areas, while also
stimulating local economic activity and creating employment opportunities for
the youth.
“This
facility will greatly ease access to DVLA services for our people, while also
boosting the local economy and creating much-needed jobs,” he said, urging
staff of the new offices to uphold integrity and efficiency in service delivery
to strengthen public confidence in the Authority.
With
the commissioning of the Abuakwa and Bonwire offices, the number of DVLA facilities
inaugurated within the past eight months has risen to nine, bringing the
Authority closer to its strategic goal of ensuring convenient access to vehicle
licensing and road safety services in every region and major district across
the country.
