The Driver and
Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has commissioned three new ultra-modern
offices at Bantamaa and Adum in the Ashanti Region and Buem in the Oti Region,
as part of its ongoing drive to expand access to services and enhance
operational efficiency, bringing to thirteen (13) the number of DVLA offices
commission in the past 12 months.
The commissioning
forms part of the Authority’s broader strategy to decentralize its operations,
decongest existing offices and bring services closer to the public. The newly
established Ultra Centres are equipped with modern facilities and digital
systems designed to improve service delivery, reduce waiting times and provide
a more convenient experience for clients.
Speaking at the
commissioning ceremonies, the Chief Executive of the DVLA, Mr. Julius Neequaye
Kotey, emphasized that the expansion aligns with the Authority’s digital
transformation agenda and its commitment to improving compliance and
eliminating the activities of middlemen, commonly known as “goro boys.”
‘’These new DVLA
offices signify our commitment to brining services closer to the people and
minimizing the activities of goro boys within our system. We will not fight
them with police action, but by expanding our presence and making our services
directly accessible to the public, their activities will naturally decline,” he
stated.
He noted that
research conducted by the Authority revealed that long travel distances to DVLA
offices often discouraged compliance. To address this challenge, DVLA adopted
the Ultra Centre model through strategic private partnerships to make services
more accessible while maintaining high standards of professionalism and
transparency.
The Chief Executive
indicated that prior to the expansion, the Ashanti Region had eight DVLA
offices. With the addition of the new offices, the number is expected to
increase significantly, with a target of 15 offices in the region by the end of
the year.
He also highlighted
key achievements of the Authority, including progress on the Lorry Terminal
Project, the printing and clearance of the backlog and the introduction of DP
stickers at the two ports of entry.
Residents and
businesses in the beneficiary communities have welcomed the new offices,
describing them as timely interventions that will boost local economic activity
and improve compliance with road safety regulations.
DVLA Bantama ultra
office is located adjacent Lebanon Club, former Royal Gas Premises while the Adum
ultra office is located near the Apagyahene Palace and the Buem office located
near Guaman.
The DVLA continues
to assure the public of its resolve to deliver efficient, transparent and
technology-driven services in line with its renewed vision.
